Bathroom remodel ORC week 2

This week was all about gathering the materials for the bathroom.

Demo is done, we have framed, leveled the floor, and now while I am waiting for the right time to put the new windows in, I worked on getting all of the other materials here and ready to go.

Excited to be apart of apartment therapy’s One room challenge this fall. You can see all of the other guest participants projects here too!

Below is a refresher of the design board, that I posted last week.

I have purchased the hex tiles for the floor, and I am really excited about them. I feel like although they are a popular design choice right now, it is also staying true to the design of our house. The fireplace hearth downstairs is also the same black hex tile, just smaller. I am hoping I can preserve those as well when the time comes to redo the living room area.

Originally I had wanted to do a microcement shower, vanity, and counter in the space. I had seen a lot of really modern looking microcement bathrooms online. But after lots of research and contacting several different distributors, I had a hard time finding anything that I could get to me at a reasonable price.

All of the distributors and brands that I found were based out of Europe. I did find a distributor in Las Vegas, but the freight alone to get it to Idaho, where I would need it, was triple the cost of the product itself.

So I pivoted and decided to try to get the look of an all cement shower without actually doing the micro cement. I bought large 2′ x 12″ tiles that have a cement look finish to them. I’m going to be using very minimal spacing when placing these tiles to try to give it a seamless cement look.

I am so thrilled to be partnering with a great company to get some beautiful shower heads, and features in the shower. I am hoping it will make the shower feel like an EXPERIENCE. I will share more details about this soon!

Here is an inspo picture of what I hope the shower ends up looking/ feeling like, just think darker grey instead of light.

For the vanity area, I am going to be building my own vanities, and am still finalizing the design on those. Think statement piece, but functional and modern.

I spoke with a lighting company this week and am so thrilled to be partnering up with progress lighting to get the vanity lights of my dreams for this space.

Here are the lights I chose.

For the water closet area, I was thinking about wallpapering it, and then changed my mind, as I couldn’t find anything that was really sticking out to me. This still may change, but I am thinking of doing picture frame molding, and painting the whole thing dark… like deep black, or green. I cant decide if it will make the space feel even smaller than it is.. which is pretty small, or if it will feel clean and modern. The floor will already be dark, so I need to think about this some more. Maybe a deep grey lime wash? I want it to feel classy but moody. More on that later.

I am excited to get some more projects done this week, including blocking for the drywall I didn’t finish last week.

I planned on patching the leaking roof this week too, but alas it rained all week, so I couldn’t. I am hoping the weather forecast stays this week so I can get that done asap.

Next up will be getting the darn windows in. I think I have lined up some help, and a way to get the heavy windows supported from the outside. Stay tuned for more photos soon!
