DIY painted arched Accent wall

When I was re-doing my girls room, I knew that I wanted my little girls wall to have a fun accent pop of color. The rest of the room was neutrals so this corner was going to be full of color in her favorite shades.

Overall, it was SUPER easy to do, and made a huge impact on the space. We re-did our girls room by placing the bunk bed in the center of the room dividing it into two equal spaces. So each space on either side of the bed is catered to each kid. Its like re-doing two rooms within one. They are so opposite in taste it was really the only solution.

Here is how you can make an accent wall too!

Materials

  • Paint in the color you want
  • String
  • A paintbrush
  • painters tape
  • A small foam roller

Step 1: Marking the sides

The first step you need to take is deciding on how big you would like the accent wall pop of color to be. I knew that I wanted an arched shape that extended down the length of the wall.

I used painters tape and a level to make sure I made to vertical lines up the sides.

Step 2: Drawing the arch

I then used the string to create the arched part on top. It took a little trial and error. I used my finger as the fulcrum point on the bottom of the string. I placed it in the middle of the rectangle shape. I then used my other hand to pull the string tight to the outside edge of the rectangle. Once I had the right length, not moving my first finger from the center of the rectangle spot, I grabbed a pencil.

I put the pencil in the hand on the end of the string. I kept my other hand in the center of the rectangle at the bottom still, and moved the other hand in an arched movement from one side of the rectangle to the other. It made a nice even arch.

Step 3: Painting

Next is the fun part! You get to paint. I used a angled brush to cut in along the edges of the painters tape, and then rolled the center sections with a smooth knap foam mini roller.

I ended up free handing the top arch part, because there is just not a great way to get a smooth rounded edge with painters tape. I just took it really really slow. If you mess up, you can always touch up with white ( or the background color) after you are done.

Do at least 2 good coats of paint.

Step 4: Remove the tape

When the paint is almost dry ( but not all the way dry) remove the painters tap. This is the best time to remove the tape if you have painted the color over the edge of the tape quite a bit, because once it dries it is more prone to peeling off the paint you have just added along the edges too.

And thats it! Super simple and so cute. I color blocked and added two different tones of pink to add visual interest. I just added another strip of painters tape across the center and did it in sections.

We also ended up adding some fun vertical strips of wood along one side that hide some LED light strips. This was an addition for it to feel like a fun space.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy creating-
